Yesterday we drove out into the desert to spend the night. On the way, we stopped at a place called Oasis. It was kind of like a pool area…but the water was like lake water and there were fish in it, and you could jump off the rocks/cliffs into the water in certain spots.
It was super refreshing because the water was cool, unlike the warm bath-like water off the coast. I’m afraid of heights but I took a leap of faith (literally) off the cliff and into the water. It was a nice stop before heading further into the desert.
After Oasis, we went to this place called Desert Discovery. It consisted of a bunch of cute little shacks and a main room and a kitchen. We slept outside on a mattress under the stars which was perfect until giant beetles started buzzing past in the morning. That was my cue to go back into the shack. Before we went to sleep, I did get some pretty pictures of the sunset.
In the morning, we woke up, had breakfast, and then the fun began. I had never heard of dune bashing before but I got to experience it today. Basically what it is is off-roading in the sand dunes. It was a blast but it was also really scary. I didn’t take pictures because I was holding on for dear life but I found a picture online of one of the same hills that we went down.
You know when you are at the top of a roller coaster about to go over the edge? That’s how it felt. And before this, our driver was flying over smaller dunes, diving at almost a sideways angle down steep little dunes. It was an adrenaline rush.
After dune bashing, I got to settle down with a nice little camel ride!!!
Getting on the camel was easy. He sat down, I climbed on. Getting up with the camel was not so easy. They stand up hind legs first then front legs so it’s important to hold on! Our walk was short but it was still pretty cool.
Of course I had to take a selfie with the camel. It had to be done.
( Silly Camel =P )
And…then a few more 🙂
Between the oasis, the dune bashing and the camel riding, I had an awesome weekend. The people that took care of us this weekend were all really kind and they helped make this experience unforgettable!
